Siemens Aquaris’s unique waterproof technology wasn‘t created overnight. Years of careful research and development went into Siemens Aquaris to make sure that water, dust and dirt don’t. Ask your audiologist... Dustproof and waterproof aids

"Is there a hearing aid that is dustproof and waterproof? My husband works in construction and he also coaches a swim team and his hearing aids are always malfunctioning due to dust or moisture."

There is a brand new hearing aid made by Siemens called the Aquaris that is both dustproof and waterproof. These aids are brand new and will be available the end of July. These are perfect for people that work in dusty situations such as construction and wood working. They are also perfect for active people who like to hike, swim, boat and bicycle.

If you visit the Internet and do a search of "Siemens Aquaris" you can watch a couple of informative YouTube videos about this great new technology. Besides being a discreet and small behind the ear aid, they also come with a Sport Clip and an AquaPac. The Sport Clip holds the hearing aid(s) securely in place for vigorous activities such as mountain biking. The pouch will keep devices such as an MP3 player safe and dry so one can enjoy listening to music while swimming.

I have many patients that sweat profusely in the summer just doing normal yard work or gardening. Many were resorting to covering their aids with little absorbent boots or socks to try to keep the moisture from damaging their hearing aids. These Aquaris aids will be perfect for them. These Aquaris aids are for mild to moderate hearing loss only they are not powerful enough for severe to profound hearing loss.

If one has hearing aids already and is experiencing moisture related problems I recommend a hearing aid dehumidifier to store them in at night. A dehumidifier can help dry them out and keep them working better longer. There are many different models and range in cost from $7 up to $60.

Partially deaf BBC dancer gets breakthrough underwater hearing aid

A partially deaf dancer is one of the first in the UK to wear a new waterproof hearing aid.

Kirsty Swain, 30, from Hackbridge, finished fourth in the BBC talent show, So You Think You Can Dance, this summer.

She has now been unveiled as one of the first people in the UK to wear the Siemens waterproof and shock resistant hearing instrument, Aquaris.

The hearing instrument has opened up a whole new world to the jazz dancer who has spoken out against the stigma associated with hearing loss.

As a child she was excluded and embarrassed to wear her hearing aids and her active lifestyle as a dancer, teacher and performer has posed a number of issues.

Unable to find a hearing aid that could withstand the sweat and rigours of dancing, she preferred to dance without.

As a result, her dancing career has been shaped by the struggle to hear rhythm and she has learnt to dance by music vibrations and copying others to pick up routines.

She said: “I have had trouble in the past with hearing instruments getting sweaty, slipping and being uncomfortable when exercising, but with the Aquaris I can run along hearing everything, without the slightest problem. “I’ve been swimming with it and couldn’t believe how amazing it was. I could hear people standing beside the pool chatting as I swam underwater, more than most people, which made me feel quite special.

“Aquaris is absolutely brilliant. It adjusts to any situation I am in whether it’s the bar, the studio, on stage or watching TV on the couch. I can also swim, dance, run and jump in the shower without thinking. When I’m in the studio, I am able to hear the music and teacher’s voice clearer than ever before.”

She was also fitted with a miniTek, which uses Bluetooth technology to wirelessly communicate sound between her Aquaris hearing instrument and television, mobile phone and MP3 player.
