Any member of a family, who has a hearing loss, can be - even if he or she is already wearing hearing aids - a real bain to the rest of the family, when he/she seems always to be turning up the volume on the TV control. The obvious answer to this problem is to make a link, via Bluetooth technology, between the TV - or radio or music transmitter - and the hearing aids, inasmuch as they are receptive or adaptable to this kind of technology.

When I was to choose the appropriate hearing instruments for my specific binaural, moderate, high frequency hearing loss, my hearing professional felt that I would be happiest with Phonak, precisely because, together with my hearing aids, I would be able to connect with devices using Bluetooth technology, such as the iCom, the My Pilot and the -then only just introduced - TVLink. However, between the announcement to audiologists and hearing professionals and actually reaching the market, some months ellapsed. When I received my TVLink, I had just had a little crisis, since corrected, with the receivers in my hearing aids, and so neither the iCom nor the My Pilot were making any link. I really had to defer the use of the TVLink for some time further, until I got my Audeo Smart IXs back from the Phonak factory, where everything had been checked out. I have only really been able to appreciate the benefit from the TVLink in the past two weeks or so. But, as others, maybe, who have the advantage of using this device, it makes listening to the TV a much more pleasant experience, with stereophonic clarity rather than simple sound amplification being the great "hearing gain".

There is also a "moral" for both hearing aid users and for hearing professionals, that plenty of patience is needed, when testing or fitting brand new products, which are still only just out from the manufacturer and on the market. All of us want perfection and some of us are lucky... though perhaps not first time!
